Proper study habits can free up time and help you exceed in
college. For the longest time my biggest weakness was my study habits. My
original philosophy was to take notes on everything that sounded important.
Unfortunately, when you’re in the process of learning something for the first
time everything sounds important. It’s important to realize that you don’t have
to write every single thing down.
Theirs only twenty-four hours in a day and as much as we
might want to extend that time period; it’s definitely not going to happen. I
remember readying a psychology book and taking notes on every single thing that
I felt was important. Four hours later I finished the first chapter out of two
that was assigned to me. Sometimes it takes outside sources to help you adapt
your study habits to ones that are far more efficient in the long wrong. As we
grow older and progress farther through school the time that needs to be
invested gradually goes up. At first I was stubborn until finally, someone gave
me a greater insight on proper study habits.
A few tips I've picked up:
- Bolt print and underline words usually signify something of importance and should be remembered.
- Paragraphs within a box are meant to stick out for a reason
- The Summary at the conclusion of the chapter gives a refresher on the chapter you just read.
- Don’t be overwhelmed by the number of pages.
The tips above have worked great for me in the past and have
allowed more time for other studies. Proper study habits can make the
difference between a B and C at the end of a semester. Don’t sell yourself
short and think that your studying habits are adequate. No matter who you are
in life there’s always room for growth. The real question is whether or not you’re
willing to accept it?
Great reading tips!
